MSc Researcher Shayna Meinzinger Highlights Wetland Emission Research on World Wetlands Day and World Water Day
Shayna Meinzinger, master’s student at the University of Waterloo and member of the Solutionscapes Wetland Team, presented her poster titled Quantifying Greenhouse Gas Emission Dynamics in Restored Wetlands, co-authored with Nandita Basu and Tonya DelSontro, at two events, the University of Waterloo’s 13th Annual World Wetlands Day on February 3, 2025, and the Water Institute’s World Water Day on March 21, 2025.
Shayna’s research investigates greenhouse gas emissions from restored agricultural wetlands in southern Ontario, focusing on how seasonal, spatial, and environmental factors influence methane, carbon dioxide, and nitrous oxide fluxes. The findings will help inform wetland restoration strategies that support both climate mitigation and ecological health.
