Dr. Helen Baulch Leads Dialogue on Prairie Wetlands at the Annual Convention of the Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists

From March 18-19, 2025, more than 300 agrologists from across Saskatchewan gathered online at the Annual Convention - Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists. The event brought together professionals from the agricultural, food, bioresource, and environmental sectors to discuss emerging issues in agrology.

Dr. Helen Baulch, Associate Professor at the University of Saskatchewan and member of the Solutionscapes Wetland Team, delivered a presentation titled Balancing Drainage Benefits with Environmental and Social Effects - A Conversation Starter. Her talk examined the trade-offs of wetland drainage in prairie agricultural landscapes, where wetlands may slightly reduce agricultural productivity but provide social and environmental benefits. She emphasized the need to bridge perspectives on drainage impacts and scientific assessments, highlighting the importance of collaboration and dialogue for developing solutions.
